Blues on the Green in Zilker Park returns. ACL Radio says City Council support is reason.

Blues on the Green, a popular free music festival in Zilker Park that was slated to be canceled this year, is back thanks to a resolution approved by the Austin City Council on Thursday.

Organizers of the popular free music event held in Zilker Park announced in January they would not be able to host the festival this year, citing rising costs.

Austin artist Mobley performs at ACL Radio鈥檚 Blues on the Green concert series in Zilker Park on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

Austin City Limits Radio, in a post on X Friday, said the event is back "thanks to the Austin City Council's approval of Resolution 23 and H-E-B's increased financial support."

The resolution approved Thursday authorized the city to negotiate with the Blues on the Green organizers to make it a city co-sponsored event. The city manager is directed to return with a resolution or ordinance for any associated fee waivers, co-sponsorships or related budget authorizations, according to the draft resolution.
